DAY HARBOR
"Escape the Crowds"

Aquetec - Seward Alaska Water Taxi offers the best prices and best service to Day Harbor. Day Harbor, the first bay east of Resurrection Bay, is off the beaten track of the dozens of tour boats based in Seward, Alaska. Its remote beaches are rarely visited. The area is rich in wildlife, including Humpback and Minke whales, Dall porpoise, Orcas, Steller sea lions, Harbor seals, Northern Sea otters, River otters, Black bear, Mountain goat, Moose, Bald eagles and a large diversity of waterfowl, seabirds and shorebirds. This area has not been targeted by the cattle tour operators. Seward Water Taxi is the ONLY reliable service operating in this area. We have explored this area extensively over the last 20 years and never have we had to share a campsite with anyone. This area is truly for those who want to experience the wilderness and escape the crowds.

Driftwood Bay State Marine Park, surrounded by cliffs of pillow basalt and moss-covered spruce forests, offers great camping, ideal kayaking and beach combing.

Further north in Day Harbor, Safety Cove State Marine Park also offers great camping with a lake behind the beach head. From here, you're in more protected waters as you paddle north. Safety Cove is a great place to start a multi-day pack-rafting or kayaking adventure heading toward Ellsworth Glacier.Campfire at Day Harbor.

Bootleg Cove is one of the "gems" of Day Harbor. During high tide, you can navigate the river from the ocean up to the hidden lake behind the beach head. In the lagoon, you'll find otters, eagles, seals, Black bears and spawning salmon.

At the head of the bay, you'll find the drainage of Ellsworth Glacier. This area offers great haul outs, excellent camping, abundant wildlife, beach combing and incredible hikes to Ellsworth Glacier lake 1.7 miles along the river. The lake is filled with giant icebergs. Wild mustangs frequent the beach area as well as moose. This is a great destination to be dropped off with a lightweight Alpacka pack-raft. Hike up to the lake for some awesome rafting. After a stay at Day Harbor, it may be difficult to come back to the rat race!
